Chicago State University (CSU) has officially confirmed that Nigerian President Bola Tinubu attended the university and graduated in 1979 with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration.
The university’s statement, reported by CBS News, expressed confidence in the accuracy of its records regarding Tinubu’s academic achievements and degree certificate.
However, CSU clarified that U.S. federal law, specifically the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), restricts the release of further details about Tinubu’s academic records without consent or a court order.

The controversy surrounding Tinubu’s academic qualifications recently resurfaced when Nigerian presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar initiated legal proceedings in the United States, seeking access to Tinubu’s academic documents and requesting depositions from CSU officials.
Judge Jeffrey Gilbert of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois has not yet made a ruling on Atiku’s request.
Despite an earlier dismissal of Atiku’s case by the Nigerian election tribunal, he maintains that the matter remains unresolved.
