Chicago State University has provided the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois with the academic records of President Bola Tinubu during his time as an Accounting student at the institution.
These records were submitted as part of a civil action filed by Tinubu’s co-contestant in the last presidential election, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.
According to the transcripts, Tinubu earned high grades, including As and Bs, in various courses during his academic pursuits, which included Principles of Economics, Cost Accounting, and Internal Auditing, among others. The university confirmed that Tinubu graduated in 1979 with a bachelor’s degree in Accounting.

While the university released these records in response to the court’s request, it emphasized that U.S. federal law, specifically the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), restricts the disclosure of student records. The institution also noted that it cannot provide further information without consent or unless allowed to do so via court order.
This development sheds light on President Tinubu’s educational background and comes in response to previous claims challenging the authenticity of his academic records. The court’s affirmation of Tinubu’s victory in the presidential election further solidifies his position as the President of Nigeria.
