Although both Zambia and Costa Rica had already been eliminated from the tournament, they were determined to finish on a high note and collect as many points as possible in their final group match.

With this remarkable win, Zambia joined the ranks of Nigeria and Morocco as the third African country to secure a victory at the 2023 World Cup. Nigeria had defeated Australia 3-2, while Morocco secured a 1-0 win against South Korea on Matchday 2 of the tournament.
