WWC: England wallop China 6-1, Storm into Last 16

In a stunning display of attacking prowess, England’s women’s football team secured a resounding 6-1 victory over China, sealing their place in the last 16 of the Women’s World Cup.

The match, held at Adelaide’s Hindmarsh Stadium on Tuesday, saw Chelsea star Lauren James shine with two superb goals, propelling her team to the top of Group D.

The victory not only equalled England’s biggest-ever World Cup win but also ended China’s hopes as they exited the tournament at the group stage for the first time in their history.

Right from the start, England displayed their intent to dominate the match, taking the lead in the fourth minute when Manchester United striker Alessia Russo found the net with an instinctive finish. Lauren Hemp and Lauren James added two more goals before halftime, showcasing the team’s clinical finishing and attacking flair.

China’s hope for a comeback arose when they converted a second-half penalty through Wang Shuang. However, England’s Lauren James quickly dashed those hopes with a sublime volley, securing her brace for the match. Substitute Chloe Kelly further widened the scoreline after capitalizing on a goalkeeper error, while Rachel Daly sealed the deal with another well-taken goal as the clock ran down.

England’s commanding performance against China solidified their position as one of the favorites to win the Women’s World Cup. Alongside Japan, they are the only teams to have won all three of their group stage matches, sending a strong message to their competitors.

Despite their victory, England had to contend with the absence of injured Barcelona midfielder Keira Walsh. Nevertheless, captain Katie Zelem, Jess Carter, and Lauren Hemp stepped up to fill the void and contribute significantly to the team’s attacking prowess.
