Woman bathes son with hot water for bringing girlfriend home

In Cross River State, a woman named Maryam Zakari is accused of scalding her son, Babanne Abdulahi, with boiling water after he brought his girlfriend home.

The incident occurred in the Bogobiri area, a Hausa-Fulani residential neighbourhood, last Thursday.

Eyewitnesses reported that instead of addressing the situation verbally, Maryam chose to pour hot water on her son’s body, leading to severe burns.

Sympathizers gathered at the scene expressed disapproval of her actions, citing not only the girlfriend’s presence but also her son’s failure to give her his daily earnings, which he reportedly gave to his girlfriend.

The injured young man was promptly taken to a private clinic in Calabar for medical treatment.

The state police command’s Public Relations Officer, Irene Ugbo, stated that the incident had not yet been officially reported to them.

Efforts to obtain comments from both the husband and wife were unsuccessful as they remained silent.
