The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has expressed his concern over the state of affairs in the nation’s capital, Abuja.
In response, he has directed top officials of the administration to improve their performance or consider redeployment to other positions. Minister Wike’s call comes in light of growing concerns about issues such as filth and an inadequate transportation system in the city.
During a recent meeting, Wike specifically addressed the director responsible for the Abuja Environmental Protection Board (AEPB), instructing them to take immediate action to clean up the city. He emphasized his commitment to holding officials accountable and stated that he would closely monitor their progress in addressing these issues.

Wike also highlighted the importance of completing projects rather than allowing them to be abandoned. He affirmed his dedication to delivering positive outcomes for the residents of Abuja and stressed the significance of visible improvements within a short timeframe.
Addressing officials in charge of street lights, Wike called for swift action to restore lighting to the streets of Abuja. He expressed his own concerns about non-functioning street lights and urged the officials to work diligently to rectify the situation.
The minister also focused on sanitation issues, stating that he would apply significant pressure on the director responsible, even to the point of potentially causing high blood pressure. He underlined the importance of maintaining a clean environment and expressed his determination to ensure that Abuja remains sanitary.
Regarding transportation challenges, Wike pointed out the existence of illegal bus stops in the city and demanded swift action to address the problem. He emphasized that addressing these issues is crucial even in challenging times and indicated that his administration would not tolerate lawlessness.
Minister of State in the FCT, Dr Mariya Mahmoud, expressed her belief that with the support of the staff, the positive changes implemented by Wike in his previous role in Rivers State could be replicated in the FCT. She emphasized the need for commitment, cooperation, and loyalty among the staff to achieve the desired results.
