A community-based organisation under the umbrella of Obige Obukpa Widows Care Foundation, OOWCF, has lauded Women Aid Collective, Action Aid , and Women’s Voice Leadership Project for empowering women with training and startup kits in Obige Obukpa community.
OOWCF which spoke through its Executive Director, Lolo Eucharia Eze, during the Close Out Meeting With Community Women in Obige Obukpa, Nsukka Local Government Area of Enugu State on Friday to mark the end of a five-year project of the Foundation, said that the members enjoyed tremendous support from the aforementioned organisations through training, empowerment and enlightenment programmes.
The Director who said that the five-year project equally enjoyed the sponsorship of Global Affairs, Canada, further explained that the Close Out Meeting was to articulate the achievements, challenges and to chart the way forward for the Foundation.

She further explained that most of the widows in the Foundation were trained on different skills and vocations and empowered with startup kits, adding that they are now economically self-reliance.
“The widows in Obige Obukpa were enlightened on their rights in their late husbands’ places. I am happy to report that most of the widows have reclaimed their husbands’ inheritance which hitherto were lost. Widows no longer suffer deprivations in Obige Obukpa community courtesy of the enlightenment programmes we conducted with the widows.
“All the Gender-based violence were tackled and our women now have their pride of place in Obige Obukpa community. We equally received trainings on reproductive health, personal and environmental hygiene and our women were trained on different skills and given start up kits. Most of them are doing well in their businesses and fending for their families.
“We equally got laptop, printer, generator, photocopy machine, chairs and canopies from this project,” Lolo Eze explained.
She however pleaded with the aforementioned non-governmental organisations to extend the empowerment and enlightenment programmes to the entire Nsukka Local Government Area of Enugu State in the next phase of the project, pointing out that a lot of gender-based violence are still unattended to in many communities in the local government.
In their reactions, the beneficiaries of the project, including Justina Eze, and Felicia Alumona, appreciated the non-governmental organisations for using the Obige Obukpa Widows Care Foundation to bring succour to their doorsteps.
They equally lauded the traditional ruler of Obige Obukpa community and the Chief Executive Officer of the Foundation, HRH, Igwe RSN Eze for facilitating the project and projecting issues affecting women in his community to front burner.
