On Wednesday, the Presidency announced that the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) have decided to halt the ongoing nationwide protest following a meeting with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Dele Alake, the Special Adviser to the President on Special Duties, Communications & Strategy, revealed this on Wednesday evening.
Alake stated that after a productive and open discussion with President Tinubu, the Labour leaders have chosen to suspend the protest.

They have instead opted for a more constructive engagement with the government to address the unresolved matters affecting the welfare of the working people and the general population of Nigeria.
During the meeting, President Tinubu assured the Labour leaders that the Port Harcourt refineries would commence production by December 2023, once the ongoing rehabilitation contract between NNPCL and the Italian firm Maire Tecnimont SpA is completed.
He also pledged his commitment to advancing Nigeria’s best interests and appealed to the Labour leaders to collaborate with him in building a stronger and economically prosperous nation.
