In a bid to curb the rising insecurity in Nigeria’s South-East region, Major General Hassan Taiwo Dada, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 82 Division, Enugu, paid a significant visit to Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma.
During the meeting, Major General Dada informed the governor that he had received a direct order from his superiors to put an end to the menace in the region without delay.
The GOC’s visit to Governor Uzodimma and his team at the New Exco Chambers Government House Owerri served as a platform to solicit the government’s support and that of the people in their mission to quell the escalating security challenges.

As part of military tradition, Major General Dada emphasized the importance of familiarizing themselves with the people in their assigned areas, further highlighting the gravity of the task ahead.
“I am here, therefore, to solicit the governor’s support and everybody’s support to improve security in Imo State and the South-East,” Major General Dada stated firmly. The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, has entrusted him with the critical responsibility of restoring peace to the troubled region.
Responding to the GOC’s mission, Governor Uzodimma warmly welcomed Major General Dada and his entourage. The governor expressed confidence in the GOC’s capabilities, stating that he possesses an impressive résumé that can effectively combat insecurity in the South-East.
Assuring Major General Dada of the support from the people of Imo State and the entire South-East, Governor Uzodimma vowed to back the military’s efforts in their quest for a safer region.
The governor also seized the opportunity to highlight the importance of maintaining a robust inter-agency relationship in addressing the prevailing criminal activities, including banditry, kidnapping, armed robbery, and murder. He urged the military to take necessary measures against those instigating sit-at-home orders, which have adversely impacted the region.
The visit was attended by several dignitaries, including the Deputy Governor of Imo State, Senator Patrick Ndubueze, and other notable lawmakers. The support and presence of these stakeholders further underscored the urgency of addressing the security crisis in the South-East.
