Veteran Nollywood actor Olu Jacobs has passed away at 82, following a prolonged battle with dementia and other health issues.
Born on July 11, 1942, Jacobs was a distinguished Nigerian actor and film executive, celebrated as one of the greatest African actors of his generation.
Jacobs began his acting career in England, training at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts and appearing in various British television shows and series during the 1970s. He later returned to Nigeria and became a prominent figure in Nollywood, starring in over 120 films and earning numerous accolades, including the Africa Movie Academy Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role in 2007.

In recent years, Jacobs’ health had been deteriorating due to dementia, a condition that affects memory, thinking, and behaviour. His wife, actress Joke Silva, had been his primary caregiver and publicly shared the challenges of supporting her husband through his illness.
Despite his health issues, Jacobs remained a beloved figure in the Nigerian film industry, known for his talent, dedication, and significant contributions to the growth and development of Nollywood. He will be deeply missed by his fans, colleagues and the Nollywood Industry and his family.
