In a bid to fortify Nigeria’s maritime security, Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, presented two state-of-the-art unmanned water vessels to President Bola Tinubu.
The Swift Ship Company in the United States generously donated these vessels—S2 and S3 Swift Sea Stalkers—marking a significant step forward in the fight against insecurity on Nigerian waterways.
Henshaw Ogubike, Director of Press and Public Relations in the Ministry of Defence, confirmed this development in a statement released on Friday. During the presentation at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Matawalle highlighted that these vessels incorporate cutting-edge technology and are intended to address insecurity not only in the Niger Delta but also in the Lake Chad region and other maritime territories across the country.

Matawalle credited the acquisition of these high-tech vessels to the success of his recent diplomatic tour to the United States. The tour aimed to forge strategic collaborations that would enhance Nigeria’s military capabilities in tackling contemporary security challenges.
Additionally, the Minister stressed the intention to foster partnerships with U.S. companies to locally produce military hardware in Nigeria, in collaboration with the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON). This initiative, he emphasized, aligns with President Tinubu’s commitment to promoting peace and security in Nigeria.

The Minister assured the President that these advanced military and intelligence capabilities would significantly bolster Nigeria’s efforts in addressing the pervasive issue of insecurity. This move marks a substantial stride in Nigeria’s ongoing commitment to ensuring peace and security across its maritime territories.
