The Nnamdi Azikiwe University, situated in Awka, Anambra State, has made the tough decision to suspend or dismiss several academic and non-academic staff, as well as students, due to various misconducts and offenses.
A total of 14 individuals, including five lecturers, found themselves facing disciplinary actions. Their offenses ranged from extortion of students who had successfully completed their courses to falsification of grades and results.
One lecturer went as far as using a student to extract money from other students by falsely declaring them as having failed their courses. This egregious act resulted in the lecturer’s dismissal.

In a separate case, a lecturer in the Department of History and International Relations faced termination for manipulating results and grades to favor a student. Meanwhile, in the Faculty of Education, three lecturers were suspended as they were found to have accepted money from students in exchange for undeserved high scores.
Even students weren’t spared from these disciplinary actions. A priest and another student were accused of aiding and abetting examination misconduct by accepting gratifications from students. In addition, one student was expelled from the university for financial fraud, swindling fellow students, exploitation, and refusing to cooperate with the investigation.
The university took these actions following recommendations from a panel, demonstrating its commitment to upholding integrity and discipline within its ranks.
Dr. Emmanuel Ojukwu, the Special Adviser for Public Relations and Special Duties, issued a press statement detailing these disciplinary actions, which serves as a clear message that misconduct will not be tolerated at the institution.
