The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has achieved a significant victory in its fight against drug trafficking with the sentencing of Uwaezuoke Ikenna Christian and Agbo Chidike Prince to life imprisonment.
The two notorious drug kingpins, responsible for smuggling cocaine across continents, will now face the consequences of their illicit activities behind bars.
Uwaezuoke Ikenna Christian, a 43-year-old businessman, was apprehended by NDLEA agents at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja after attempting to ingest 100 large wraps of cocaine. Despite initially escaping custody and attempting to smuggle cocaine to India under a different identity, Uwaezuoke was ultimately convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment by the Federal High Court in Abuja.

Agbo Chidike Prince, aged 42, met a similar fate after he was caught with 49 wraps of cocaine at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja. Despite pleading guilty to the charges, Prince was handed a life sentence by the Federal High Court in Abuja, underscoring the seriousness of drug-related offenses.
The successful prosecution of these cases reflects the NDLEA’s unwavering commitment to combatting drug trafficking and ensuring that perpetrators face justice. Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retd), Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the NDLEA, commended the officers and men of the Directorate of Prosecution and Legal Services for their diligent prosecution, emphasizing the agency’s determination to eradicate the illicit drug trade.
In addition to the convictions of Uwaezuoke and Agbo, the NDLEA has conducted numerous operations across the country to disrupt drug trafficking networks and seize illicit substances. From the discovery of tramadol pills hidden in a passenger’s belongings to the arrest of individuals involved in the manufacturing and distribution of drug-laced cakes, the agency’s efforts have yielded tangible results.
As part of its ongoing efforts to raise awareness about the dangers of drug abuse, the NDLEA has also conducted advocacy campaigns and sensitization lectures in various educational institutions nationwide. These initiatives aim to educate the public, particularly young people, about the risks associated with drug consumption and promote a drug-free society.
The NDLEA’s relentless pursuit of drug traffickers and its proactive measures to prevent drug abuse demonstrate its unwavering commitment to safeguarding the well-being of Nigerians. Through collaboration and concerted efforts, the agency remains steadfast in its mission to rid the country of the scourge of drug trafficking and protect the lives of its citizens.
