In a dramatic turn of events, Ikole Ekiti in Ekiti State witnessed pandemonium as two soldiers and policemen engaged in a fierce fight over an alleged violation of traffic rules. The dispute escalated when the soldiers, riding a motorcycle against traffic, were stopped by a female police officer.
Despite being warned about the contraflow driving, the soldiers continued on passing, resulting in a verbal dispute that quickly escalated into a violent altercation. The officer requested assistance, and a viral video showed armed officers striking an unarmed soldier for allegedly attacking the officer and shredding her uniform.
Sunday Abutu, an Ekiti police spokeswoman, verified the event and stated that the two soldiers involved had been arrested and were being investigated. He went on to say, “It’s a case of violation of traffic order and serious assault on a policewoman who was performing her lawful duty at the traffic by the two soldiers.”

The incident shows the continuous conflict between police officers and soldiers in Nigeria. A police officer was beaten to death by troops from the Army Ordinance Corps in a similar occurrence in 2022, raising concerns about confrontations between the two security forces. The Nigerian Army has also accused police officials of murdering and brutalizing its soldiers, triggering an investigation into such incidents.
As the inquiry continues, the incident in Ekiti State highlights the need for enhanced coordination and collaboration among security forces in order to prevent future incidents and safeguard the safety of both police and military personnel.
