Senator Adams Oshiomhole, representing the Edo North Senatorial District, asserted in an interview that President Bola Tinubu inherited a challenging economic situation from the previous administration. Oshiomhole made this statement following a private meeting with Vice President Senator Kashim Shettima at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Tuesday.
Former Edo state governor Oshiomhole pointed out that President Tinubu’s administration has taken initial measures to rejuvenate the economy. He commended President Tinubu’s efforts in addressing corruption within the subsidy system and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). Oshiomhole urged patience from Nigerians and expressed confidence that the issues arising from fuel subsidy removal will be promptly resolved through collaboration between the Federal Government and organized labor.
Oshiomhole emphasized that immediate action is required to mitigate the impact of the subsidy withdrawal, particularly on vulnerable citizens.

He suggested leveraging savings or revenue to enhance wages and alleviate the cost of living. Oshiomhole noted that he participated in a productive meeting between the Federal Government and the Trade Union Congress (TUC), where demands were discussed, and the government pledged to respond by Tuesday.
Highlighting the potential savings of ending the subsidy, Oshiomhole proposed reallocating a portion of those funds to the wage sector. This would benefit all levels of government and enable them to manage the consequent wage increase effectively.
