In response to recent challenges, President Bola Tinubu has taken a decisive step by establishing a special panel dedicated to the comprehensive review and overhaul of the National Social Investment Programmes (NSIP). The move follows Tinubu’s suspension of the four programmes under the NSIP for a period of six weeks.
Leading the special panel is Wale Edun, the Coordinating Minister of the Economy and Minister of Finance, signifying a commitment to a high-level intervention in restructuring the financial architecture of the social investment programmes. The aim is to implement thorough modifications to existing procedures, ensuring a more efficient and accountable system.
The panel comprises ministers representing strategic sectors, ensuring a multi-disciplinary approach to the reform effort. The Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, the Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, and the Minister of State for Youth are key members entrusted with this critical task.

The mandate of the special panel includes an immediate review and audit of the financial frameworks and policy guidelines of the social investment programmes. The objective is to usher in a new era of operations based on open and accountable governance frameworks, aiming to restore lost public confidence in these vital programmes.
President Tinubu expects the panel to operate with the highest standards, ensuring that the reforms are impervious to abuse and incompetence. The overhaul aims to benefit disadvantaged households across the nation and create a more effective and responsive social investment framework. The announcement was made by presidential spokesman Ajuri Ngelale in a statement issued on Saturday.
