Sources within the government revealed that President Tinubu’s decision to scrap the Ministry of Niger Delta was motivated by the fact that its functions were already being addressed by the NDDC. As part of his recent cabinet reshuffle, President Tinubu unveiled a list of ministers and their portfolios, alongside modifications and new creations of ministries. The adjustments include the creation of new ministries such as the Ministry of Marine And Blue Economy, Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development, and the Ministry of Gas Resources.

In May, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu advocated for the scrapping of the ministry, stating that its functions were already being covered by the NDDC.
