The National Judicial Council (NJC) has recommended that a judge from the Osun State High Court, Justice S. O. Falola, should retire.
This decision came as he was found guilty of issuing a court order against Polaris Bank for a large amount of money in a suspicious way.
The NJC mentioned that an investigation discovered that Justice Falola went to Lagos to meet with the bank’s lawyer about the case, which they considered unprofessional.

Due to this, the NJC, led by Hon. Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, GCON, at its 104th Meeting of December 6th and 7th, 2023, recommended Justice Falola’s retirement. They made this suggestion after an investigation based on a complaint by Mr. Dapo Kolapo Olowo and Polaris Bank. They were unhappy about the order issued by Justice Falola, attaching the bank’s account instead of the account of the person supposed to pay.
The NJC spokesman mentioned that they urged Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State to retire Justice Falola immediately. They also mentioned that Justice Falola is suspended until the governor approves his retirement.
Additionally, the NJC refused the request by the Osun State governor to suspend the Chief Judge, Justice Adepele Ojo. They disagreed with the state House of Assembly’s decision to set up a panel to investigate the Chief Judge.
The NJC dismissed several complaints against other judges, saying they were baseless. However, they mentioned that Justice A. I. Akobi of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory will receive guidance to manage their court better.
The NJC received 51 new complaints against federal and state judicial officers and formed 11 panels to investigate these complaints.
