The Chairman of the Governing Council, Enugu State University of Science and Technology, ESUT, Hon.Sir Chinyeaka Christian Ohaa, on Tuesday appealed to the University workforce to support the Council to make necessary changes in the University.
Sir Ohaa equally appealed to the University staff to help the Governing Council to fight vices in the University, enjoining them to report cases threatening the fabrics of the Institution for necessary actions.
He made the call after an on-the-spot assessment of situation at ESUT, shortly after the Council was inaugurated by His Excellency, Governor Peter Mbah at the Government House, Enugu.

The Prochancellor appreciated the University community for giving the Council warm reception, calling on them to collaborate with his team to move the Institution forward.
“It is my hope that you would support this Governing Council to bring a change to this University. The change has already started with the Governor of Enugu State, Barr. Peter Mbah, who earmarked 33% of this year’s budget to the education sector.
“We decided to come today that we were inaugurated to have an on-the-spot assement of the situation here, which includes your welfare .
“I am equally happy that you people are working well with the Vice Chancellor, Professor Aloysius-Michaels Okolie. The name “talk and do,” is a very wonderful name. That also tells me that you are working well with all the Management of the University,” he said.
While receiving the members of the Governing Council, the Chairman, Joint Action Committee (JAC) of Three Unions on Campus, ESUT Chapter, Comrade Okey Animba, appreciated the state Governor, Barr. Mbah for appointing an accomplished and tested technocrat, Sir Ohaa, to lead the Council.
He appealed to the Chairman to prevail on the State Governor to include ESUT staff among those receiving N25,000 palliative geared towards cushioning the effects of the removal of fuel subsidy on the people of the state.
He equally appealed to the Council to consider other welfare needs of ESUT staff, including Staff Condition of Service, all outstanding promotion arrears due to workers; outstanding balance of 60% arrears of CONTISS and CONUAS, the consequential adjustment of minimum wage from date of approval to date of implementation and earned allowances among other needs.

While lauding the Vice Chancellor, Professor Okolie, for his outstanding achievements in ESUT, he pledged the collaboration of the University workforce with members of the Council in order to move the Institution forward.
Present at the brief reception ceremony by JAC were the Vice Chancellor, the Deputy Vice Chancellor, the new Provost- College Of Medicine Prof Uchenna Ekwochi, the Registrar, Bursar, and the University Librarian.
Also present were other newly inaugurated members of Council viz; Prof Ikenna Chukwu, Engr James Ajibo Ifeanyi, Mrs Gladys Ngozi Okoro, Hon Hilary Chinedu Onu, Dr Eric Oluedo and Dr, Sir Innocent I Akuvue.
