Desire Oparanozie, a prominent Super Falcons forward, has announced her retirement from both club and country.
The 29-year-old player’s last appearance for the Super Falcons was at the 2023 World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, where Nigeria exited in the round of 16.
Oparanozie made her senior team debut in 2010 and played in several editions of the FIFA Women’s World Cup. She was also a part of the Super Falcons squad that won the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in 2010, 2014, 2016, and 2018.
During her club career, Oparanozie played for Bayelsa Queens and Delta Queens in Nigeria before moving abroad. She most recently played for Wuhan Chegu Jianghan FC.
In a post on social media, Oparanozie expressed her gratitude to her fans, family, friends, and the football community. She said, “It’s time to take a bow,” and officially announced her retirement.
