Super Falcons Beat Ethiopia 4-0, Advance to 2024 Olympic Qualifiers

The Super Falcons of Nigeria defeated Ethiopia with an overwhelming 4-0 victory (5-1 on aggregate) to guarantee their place in the third qualifying round for the 2024 Women’s Football Olympic Games in Paris. It was an amazing exhibition of football brilliance.

The Super Falcons’ path to this victory started with a 1-1 draw in the first leg of the 2024 Olympic qualifying match in Ethiopia, which was saved by a spectacular long-range goal by Atletico Madrid player Rasheedat Ajibade.

Late in the first half, Nigeria took the lead thanks to a goal from striker Uchenna Kanu, who coolly slotted the ball past the Ethiopian goalie.

The Atletico Madrid Femeni forward scored from close range after receiving a feed from Asisat Oshoala, extending the Falcons’ lead to a comfortable 2-0. Captain Rasheedat Ajibade continued her remarkable goal-scoring streak.

In the 68th minute, Asisat Oshoala, a forward for Barcelona Femeni, connected brilliantly with Uchenna Kanu’s cross to increase Nigeria’s score.

After just four minutes, Ajibade scored her second goal of the match, extending the scoring barrage. Her previous pass to Oshoala, who cut by the Ethiopian defense from the right wing, created the conditions for this simple finish.

Nigeria has successfully qualified for the third qualifying round with their win, and they will now face the winner of the Uganda vs. Cameroon match. The dates for the third qualifying round of games are set for February 9–28, 2024.

The Super Falcons’ convincing victory over Ethiopia is evidence of their talent and tenacity, and they are ready to leave their imprint on the route to the Paris Olympic Games for women’s football in 2024.
