The Vice Chancellor of the Enugu State University of Science and Technology, ESUT, Professor Aloysius-Michaels Okolie, on Wednesday said that the clerics who troop to Aso Rock Villa to collect handouts and offer prayers to elected officials are contributory to the hardships Nigerians are facing currently.
He enjoined church leaders to be praying against bad governance in Nigeria instead of hobnobbing with politicians for temporal gratification.
Prof. Okolie, opined that South East is not demonstrating the ongoing national economic hardship because according to him, the region is already used to suffering.

While emphasizing that the citizens must live with the harsh realities of the consequences of their choice, he enjoined them to brace up for more hard times.
He made the statements when the Bishop, Methodist Church of Nigeria, (Akagbe/Awgu/Aninri) Diocese, Rt. Rev. John Orji, paid a courtesy call on the ESUT Management with his clergy and church stakeholders at his office in Agbani, Nkanu West Local Government Area of Enugu State.
“Even though it is a collective effort of self-destruction, we all , including the church and the society in general, contributed to the destruction of this nation, Nigeria.
While addressing ESUT Management, the Methodist Bishop, Rt . Rev. Orji, bemoaned the economic hardship in Nigeria.
He commended the ESUT Vice Chancellor, Professor Okolie, for prompt payment of workers salaries, timely appraisal and promotion of staff of the University.
He equally commended the Vice Chancellor for working assiduously with his Management team to reposition the University through infrastructure facelift and quality research outputs.
While seizing the opportunity to invite the Vice Chancellor to the forthcoming second synod of their Diocese scheduled between April 4-7, 2024, he noted that beyond the spread of the gospel, church leaders have been given the responsibility of impacting the society positively through infrastructure and human capital development.
