Simon Ekpa, the Autopilot faction leader of the pro-Biafra group IPOB and self-styled prime minister of the Biafra Republic Government In-Exile (BRGIE), has embarked on a new strategy to advance his cause on the international stage. In a move designed to bolster global support for Biafran independence, Ekpa has secured a significant agreement with Moran Global Strategies (MGS), a U.S.-based lobbying firm.
The deal, valued at $130,000—approximately N205 million—entails a year-long contract starting June 15, 2024, with the option for renewal. Under the agreement, BRGIE will pay MGS $10,000 per month for services. MGS, led by former U.S. lawmaker James Moran, is tasked with high-level advocacy aimed at engaging key lawmakers, policymakers, and think tanks in Washington, D.C.
This partnership marks a pivotal development in the long-standing struggle for Biafran independence. The agreement outlines MGS’s role in providing strategic advice and facilitating access to both the U.S. Executive and Legislative branches. Additionally, MGS will work to sway private and public sector support for Biafra’s secession from Nigeria.

According to the terms of the deal, MGS is committed to using its resources to advocate for U.S. government support for Biafran independence and to recognize Biafra as the legitimate representative of the Biafran people. The firm will also address concerns related to the Nigerian government’s human rights record, religious freedom issues, and its alignment with U.S. adversaries.

The contract stipulates that MGS will promote Biafra’s goals to U.S. and international stakeholders, highlighting issues such as human rights abuses, religious persecution, and the rise of Islamic fundamentalism in Nigeria. The firm will also work to align U.S. congressional support and collaborate with think tanks, faith-based, and human rights organizations to amplify the Biafran cause.
Ekpa’s move to engage with MGS represents a strategic effort to leverage international platforms for advocacy, aiming to shift global perspectives and garner support for the Biafran independence movement.
