Vice-President Kashim Shettima, representing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, reiterated Nigeria’s steadfast dedication to collaborating with China and fellow African nations to realize the shared objectives of their partnership.
He made this affirmation during the China-Africa Leaders’ Roundtable Dialogue Meeting on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Addressing a prominent audience, which included Chinese President Xi Jinping and several African leaders, Shettima emphasized Nigeria’s support for China’s new initiatives that encompass various sectors crucial to Africa’s development. These initiatives encompass modernizing agriculture and agribusiness, expediting regional integration, and promoting industrialization and infrastructure expansion across the continent.

Shettima praised the existing partnership between China and Africa and hailed the three new areas of cooperation. He highlighted the alignment of these initiatives with the “Renewed Hope” vision of the Tinubu administration, the African Union’s Agenda 2063, and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals 2030. These initiatives, he noted, are relevant to both continental and national development aspirations.
Expressing Nigeria’s endorsement of China’s efforts, Shettima envisioned a close collaboration between the two nations, the African Union, and all stakeholders. He envisioned a collective effort that would propel the Africa-China comprehensive strategic and cooperative partnership to unprecedented heights, driven by mutual economic prosperity.
The Vice President emphasized the significance of financing Africa’s vital infrastructure, with a focus on improving key components such as transport corridors connecting farms to markets and ports, railway networks, road upgrades and expansions, airport enhancements, and power generation and distribution.
During the same event, Chinese President Xi Jinping assured African leaders of China’s commitment to launching initiatives that would support Africa’s industrialization and agricultural modernization. This affirmation further underscores the strengthened ties and mutual aspirations between China and African nations.
