Senators Accuse Senate President of Rushing Bill Passages

Senator Ali Ndume, representing Borno South Senatorial District, and Senator Ogoshi Onawo, representing Nasarawa State, have criticized Senate President Godswill Akpabio for allegedly pushing through the passage of executive bills without the involvement and input of other members of the Senate.

Senator Onawo expressed concerns about the speed at which “very sensitive bills” were being passed without sufficient debate, research, and contributions from the senators. He argued that the rush to pass bills within a short timeframe might not be in the best interest of the country.

In response to Senator Onawo’s comments, Senate President Akpabio defended the bills passed, stating that if the bills are good for the country, history would judge him right, and they wouldn’t pass bills that aren’t in the interest of Nigerians.

This disagreement among senators highlights the importance of thorough debate, consideration, and transparency in the legislative process to ensure that bills are properly scrutinized and serve the best interests of the nation.
