Senator Ali Ndume has issued a stark warning to President Bola Tinubu, cautioning against the potential political consequences of relocating some key departments of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) headquarters to Lagos.
Speaking on Channels Television, Ndume expressed apprehension that the president might be influenced by what he termed a “Lagos Boys” cartel, suggesting their lack of a nuanced understanding of Nigeria’s diverse dynamics.
The senator stressed the importance of basing decisions on proximity and accessibility, proposing Nasarawa, Kaduna, or Kogi as more suitable alternatives if the goal is to alleviate congestion. Ndume criticized the notion that only Lagos-centric individuals can provide effective advice, asserting that such a move could lead to political repercussions.

Emphasizing that votes from Lagos did not secure President Tinubu’s election, Ndume urged a reconsideration of the relocation decision. He underscored the consensus in the North against such a move, reiterating that Abuja remains the country’s sole federal capital.

Ndume questioned the feasibility of having two capitals and challenged the idea of the CBN governor operating from Lagos while the headquarters remains in Abuja. He predicted that President Tinubu, being a nationalist, would revisit the decision, expressing confidence in a reversal. The senator concluded by stating that if such a reversal does not occur, democratic processes would be activated.
