A seminarian of the Catholic Diocese of Nsukka in Enugu State identified as Tobechukwu Eze, has died in a fatal road accident one week to his ordination.
Eze who hailed from Eha Alumona in Nsukka Local Government Area of Enugu State was to be ordained a deacon on December 23, 2023, but he died on Friday, December 15, 2023.
It was gathered that the deceased was going with his classmates for their retreat in preparation for the ordination when he had an accident and died on the spot.
As if he had foreshadowed his death, he made a post on his Facebook page about “rushing” to somewhere he did not really understand.
He wrote, “I sincerely do not understand where I am heading to but I am rushing to that place. Why?
“Jesus is the one leading the way.”
The incident has thrown the Nsukka Catholic community as well as the deceased’s friends and relatives into deep mourning.
All efforts to reach the Diocesan Secretary, Rev. Fr. Cajetan Iyidiobi proved abortive as he did not attend to calls placed on his phone line.
