In a joint operation, the Nigerian Army, Navy, and Air Force, in collaboration with the Police and Civil Defence Corps, successfully cleared several camps belonging to the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed affiliate, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), in Okigwe Local Government Area of Imo State.
The operation, which encountered Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), led to the destruction of hideouts and the discovery of signs of terrorist activities, occultic practices, and acts of cannibalism.
The troops also dismantled an IED-making factory, recovered kidnapped policemen’s rank badges, seized Biafran currencies, fake US Dollar bills, and various Biafran insignia. Other items included military kit bags, cables for IED detonation, and axes. Two suspects were arrested, and the bodies of burnt policemen were found for proper burial.

In a separate incident in Owerri Metropolis, troops on a night patrol thwarted a kidnapping attempt by suspected IPOB/ESN terrorists. The ensuing gun duel forced the criminals to abandon their victim, resulting in the recovery of an AK-47 rifle, a G-3 rifle with mounted magazines, and the assailants’ vehicle.
To strengthen civil-military relations, the General Officer Commanding 82 Division Nigerian Army, Major General Hassan Taiwo Dada, visited Isiuzo-Amufu community in Enugu State. During the visit, he emphasized the importance of community cooperation in ending insecurity. The GOC also met with other security agencies in the area, encouraging collaborative efforts and information sharing.
Major General Dada expressed appreciation for the support from other security agencies and called on the people of the South East region to provide timely and credible information through the Emergency Line 193 by pressing 2. The Nigerian Army remains committed to its constitutional role of protecting lives and property within the ambit of the law.
