In the early hours of September 18, 2023, at approximately 2:15 am, a collaborative security operation involving Enugu State Police, NPF Special Forces, and the 82 Division of the Nigerian Army in Enugu successfully uncovered and disrupted the hideout of subversive criminals affiliated with IPOB/ESN in Ezioha Mgbowo, within Awgu Local Government Area.
According to a statement issued by the spokesperson for the Enugu State Police Command, Daniel Ndukwe, the suspects had been planning to enforce an unlawful sit-at-home directive in the State.
During the operation, three of the criminals engaged the joint security team in a firefight upon their arrival, resulting in their neutralization. Several other suspects managed to escape, some with gunshot injuries.

The operation yielded the recovery of three pump-action shotguns, 10 machetes, and various other incriminating items.
A rigorous search for the fleeing individuals is currently underway.
In the wake of this operation, Commissioner of Police, CP Kanayo Uzuegbu, psc (+), expressed his gratitude to the joint security team and reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring the safety of citizens as they conduct their lawful activities in the State.
CP Kanayo emphasized the unwavering dedication of the police and other security forces in maintaining pressure on violent criminals, regardless of their disguises.
CP Kanayo encouraged all residents to promptly report anyone they encounter with gunshot wounds to the nearest Police Station while adhering to the law and continuing to provide valuable security information and intelligence.
