Governors from the South-East region of Nigeria convened on Thursday at the Government House in Enugu, Enugu State to discuss the sit-at-home order and the release of Nnamdi Kanu from the DSS custody.
The meeting, organized by the South-East Governors’ Forum, brought together Alex Otti (Abia), Prof. Chukwuma Soludo (Anambra), Francis Nwifuru (Ebonyi), Dr. Peter Mbah (Enugu), and Senator Hope Uzodimma (Imo).
The gathering was aimed at addressing pressing issues affecting the region, with a strong focus on the recent sit-at-home protests that have disrupted daily life and the call for the release of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), who has been in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) since June 2021.

The sit-at-home protest, which has become a recurring event, has generated concerns due to its impact on economic activities, education, and daily life in the region. The governors are expected to deliberate on strategies to address the situation, including potential alternatives to express grievances that would not negatively affect the well-being of the people and the local economy.
The demand for the release of Nnamdi Kanu is another critical topic that the governors are expected to discuss. Kanu’s detention has been a subject of intense debate and agitation, with his supporters and various groups calling for his immediate release. The meeting may include discussions on ways to engage with relevant authorities and stakeholders to address this issue.
As the governors come together to deliberate on these matters, the meeting is anticipated to lead to a greater understanding of the challenges facing the region and the formulation of strategies that aim to restore peace, stability, and development to the South-East. The outcome of this meeting will undoubtedly play a significant role in shaping the region’s future and its approach to addressing its concerns in a constructive manner.
