The Rivers State Government has offered a reward of N100 million for information leading to the arrest and prosecution of the suspected killer of Superintendent of Police Bako Angbashim, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) for Ahoada Division in Rivers State.
SP Angbashim was ambushed and beheaded by armed gunmen on September 8, 2023, while returning from a police operation.
Governor Siminalayi Fubara announced this substantial bounty in a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter). He named the prime suspect as Gift David Okpara Okpolowu, also known as “2-Baba,” and his criminal gang, attributing the resurgence of violent crimes, including kidnapping and terrorism, in the Ahoada East Local Government Area to them.

The governor declared Gift David Okpara Okpolowu and all members of his gang as wanted criminals and urged citizens with information leading to their arrest to come forward. He assured the public that the Rivers State Government would spare no effort in hunting down the suspects and ensuring justice is served.
Furthermore, Governor Fubara announced the indefinite suspension of Eze Igbu Akoh II, a traditional ruler in the area, accusing him of allowing the notorious David Gift and his gang to operate freely within his territory. He emphasized the government’s commitment to the safety and security of residents.
Governor Fubara extended his condolences to SP Bako’s family, the Rivers State Police Command, and the people of Rivers State. He lauded SP Bako’s bravery and sacrifice in the line of duty, pledging that the government would support his family during this difficult time.
The killing of SP Angbashim has sparked outrage and condemnation, with Acting Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, ordering a thorough investigation into the incident. The police force is determined to bring the culprits to justice and uphold the safety and security of its officers.
The Rivers State Government’s proactive measures demonstrate its commitment to addressing criminal activities in the state and ensuring the protection of its citizens and law enforcement personnel.
