The People’s Democratic Party Governors’ Forum (PDPGF) has raised alarm over the escalating cost of living in Nigeria, comparing the situation to the economic challenges faced by Venezuela.
Governor Bala Mohammed, the Chairman of the forum, voiced these concerns in a press conference held at the Oyo State Governor’s Lodge in Asokoro, Abuja, after a meeting.
Governor Mohammed acknowledged the initial support for the removal of fuel subsidy but expressed disappointment in the free fall of the Naira and the resultant high cost of living.

He stated, “We are almost on the road to Venezuela,” emphasizing the need for urgent measures to address the economic and security challenges facing the nation.
While calling for collaborative efforts between the federal government and subnational governments, the forum urged the Federal Government to take swift initiatives involving all tiers of government to find lasting solutions to the crises. Governor Mohammed highlighted the PDP Governors’ commitment to contributing to efforts aimed at bringing security and relief to Nigerians.
The PDPGF reiterated its longstanding call for the establishment of state police with appropriate safeguards to address security concerns effectively. Additionally, the forum expressed concern about the falling value of the Naira, urging monetary and fiscal authorities to find appropriate solutions.
Regarding internal party matters, the forum expressed confidence in the Iliya Damagum-led National Working Committee (NWC) of the PDP. It pledged to lead efforts to revamp and reposition the party as a formidable opposition in Nigeria. A vote of confidence was passed in the NWC, urging the committee to convene meetings of the party’s organs, from the Caucus to the National Executive Committee (NEC).
The meeting was attended by governors from various states, including Rivers, Oyo, Adamawa, Plateau, Zamfara, Taraba, Edo, Enugu, and Delta. The forum emphasized its commitment to providing effective opposition to the ruling party while working towards the betterment of the country.
