In the wake of President Bola Tinubu’s decision to dissolve the boards of various agencies in June 2023, a significant development has emerged as the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume, spearheads the formation of an ad hoc committee tasked with evaluating potential candidates for board appointments.
This move comes as part of the government’s commitment to realizing its “renewed hope” agenda.
Atiku Bagudu, former governor of Kebbi State, and Abubakar Badaru, former governor of Jigawa State, have been selected to co-chair the ad hoc committee.

Their collaboration is aimed at expeditiously reviewing resumes and facilitating the timely nomination of individuals to these crucial positions, ultimately leading to the appointment of new board members.
Though the precise timeline for the submission of the final list of names remains unclear, it is evident that efforts are being made to streamline the process and ensure the seamless functioning of these government bodies.
This strategic move follows President Tinubu’s announcement of the dissolution of boards within various federal government parastatals, agencies, institutions, and government-owned companies. The directive, delivered through the SGF’s office, excluded 14 agencies that are listed in the third schedule, Part 1, Section 153 (i) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Spokesperson Willie Bassey, representing the SGF office, had communicated the decision, stating that the dissolution was carried out “in the exercise of its Constitutional Powers and in the Public interest.” The directive urged the Chief Executive Officers of the affected entities to route matters requiring board attention to the President through the Permanent Secretaries of their respective supervisory Ministries and Offices until new boards are constituted.
As the ad hoc committee moves forward with its deliberations, the anticipation builds around the announcement of the new board appointments, which will play a pivotal role in driving the administration’s vision forward.
