In a bid to allay public fears, the Borno State government has strongly refuted concerns regarding the potential resurgence of violence by repentant Boko Haram insurgents.
Zuwaira Gambo, the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, provided assurances that the 160,000 individuals who have repented underwent a solemn oath-taking ceremony with the Quran, committing themselves to stay away from Boko Haram activities.
Out of the total number of repentant insurgents, more than 70,000 have been successfully reintegrated into their respective communities, according to Gambo.

She underscored the transparency of the repentance process, highlighting the involvement of traditional rulers, religious leaders, and government officials in the oath-taking ceremonies.
Addressing apprehensions about a potential resurgence of terror activities, Gambo emphasized that those who had repented would be unlikely to break their oaths, given the severe consequences, including a loss of trust from their former commanders. She clarified that a significant portion of the repentant insurgents were originally farmers forced into insurgency, and the state government remains steadfast in ensuring their successful reintegration.
Gambo’s statements were made during the public presentation of survivors, victims, and deradicalized women of Boko Haram, underscoring the government’s commitment to dispelling concerns over security threats posed by the repentant individuals.
