Proximity to NATO: Wagner Mercenaries Conduct Military Training near Polish Border

Tensions in Eastern Europe have escalated with the disclosure that mercenaries from Russia’s infamous Wagner Group have commenced training exercises for Belarusian special forces at a military range located only a few miles from the border with NATO member, Poland.

The Belarusian defense ministry made the revelation on Thursday, shortly after Wagner Group’s chief, Yevgeny Prigozhin, welcomed his fighters to Belarus.

According to Reuters, Prigozhin informed them that they would temporarily suspend their involvement in the Ukraine conflict, redirecting their focus to Africa while simultaneously training the Belarusian army. “The armed forces of Belarus continue joint training with the fighters of the Wagner PMC (Private Military Company),” stated the Belarusian defense ministry.

The training sessions involve special operations forces units and representatives from the Wagner Company working together to execute combat training tasks at the Brest military range. Alarmingly, the range is situated just 3 miles (5 km) to the east of the Polish border, raising concerns among Polish officials about the potential implications for regional stability and security.

In accordance with the stringent rules of the Wagner Group, pictures have emerged showing masked Wagner instructors leading the training sessions while utilizing armored vehicles and what appears to be drone controls to impart their expertise to Belarusian soldiers.
