Simon Ekpa, a pro-Biafra activist based in Finland, has penned letters to the European Union and the United States of America, expressing deep concerns over alleged human rights abuses perpetrated by Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State, Nigeria.
The catalyst for Ekpa’s correspondence was a tragic incident where three people lost their lives during protests led by traders in Enugu State. These traders took to the streets to voice their grievances against the state government’s decision to seal their shops for failing to open on a designated day.
In his letter addressed to the international community, Simon Ekpa demanded a visa ban on Governor Peter Mbah, accusing him of violating citizens’ fundamental human rights. Ekpa specifically highlighted instances where the Enugu State government allegedly confiscated property and arrested individuals without following the due process mandated by the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

According to Ekpa, the actions taken by Governor Peter Mbah have infringed upon the people of Enugu State’s right to personal property and free enterprise. He further emphasized that these actions contravene principles upheld in the civilized world and breach various international charters, treaties, and conventions on human rights.
Simon Ekpa passionately implored the European Union and the United States to impose a visa ban on Governor Peter Mbah and include his name on the list of individuals deemed as terrorists and adversaries of freedom and democracy in Nigeria. The activist believes that such actions by the international community could have significant repercussions on the governance of Enugu State.
It is noteworthy to recall that the Enugu State Government had previously reminded residents of the state that the ban on the illegal Monday sit-at-home order remains in effect.
The situation in Enugu State has drawn global attention due to the reported human rights violations and the tragic loss of lives during the recent protests. The actions taken by the international community in response to Ekpa’s plea may play a pivotal role in addressing the issues raised and holding those responsible accountable for their actions.
