Postdoctoral Position in Forest Biogeochemistry and Enhanced Weathering

This exciting opportunity involves investigating the application of wollastonite (Ca-silicate) rock powder to a managed forest in Central Ontario. Over a span of 3 years, the project aims to (1) quantify carbon storage, (2) assess forest health and organic carbon responses, (3) innovate novel methods for CO2 removal quantification, and (4) evaluate the scalability of wollastonite application in forest management practices.

Position Overview:
The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in the execution of the enhanced weathering project. Responsibilities include planning and overseeing data collection and analyses, mentoring students, reporting and publishing results, and collaborating with industry partners. The postdoctoral fellow will be co-supervised by Prof. Ian Power (PowerGeolab.com) and Prof. Shaun Watmough. Qualifications:

• Ph.D. or equivalent degree in forest ecology, geoscience, biogeochemistry, Earth sciences, or a closely related field.
• Proficiency in English and a valid driver’s license.
• Strong field experience and technical expertise in laboratory techniques (soil, water, rock analyses).
• Skills in forest or soil biogeochemistry, environmental geochemistry, mineralogy, geochemical modeling, or hydrogeochemistry.
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in interdisciplinary settings.

Terms of Appointment:

• Initial appointment: 1 year, with potential for renewal based on performance and funding.
