The Police Service Commission (PSC) has made a commendable move to recognize and reward exemplary professionalism in the face of adversity by promoting Inspector Mohammed Aminu.
The promotion comes after Inspector Aminu endured an assault by Afrobeat musician Seun Kuti on the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos back in May. In a statement released by the PSC spokesperson, Ikechukwu Ani, it was announced that Aminu has been elevated to the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police.
The promotion of Inspector Aminu was announced during a valedictory session held in honour of some management members of the PSC. This session also witnessed the promotion of the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, to the esteemed rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police.

The decision to promote Inspector Aminu was taken in light of his unwavering commitment to upholding the law despite facing undue provocation, intimidation, and serious assault during the incident with Seun Kuti. The PSC acknowledged Aminu’s display of remarkable restraint and adherence to due process in seeking redress following the unfortunate incident.
In addition to Inspector Aminu’s promotion, the PSC also made other significant personnel decisions during its ongoing 21st plenary. The commission approved the appointment of two Deputy Inspectors General of Police, confirmed 9,016 unconfirmed Assistant Superintendents of Police, and promoted 14,052 Inspectors to Assistant Superintendents of Police (unconfirmed). Inspector Habila Bulus was also duly recognized for his gallantry and commitment to duty with a promotion to Assistant Superintendent of Police II.
CP Olalaye Falaye, formerly the Commissioner of Police for Ebonyi State Command, received a well-deserved promotion to the rank of Assistant Inspector-General of Police. This promotion was the result of the commission’s approval to adjust his position in the seniority list.
Moreover, the PSC appointed AIG Matthew Akinyosola, who currently heads the Special Protection Unit, to the position of Deputy Inspector General of Police, filling the vacancy left by the acting Inspector-General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun, who had previously represented the South-West zone in the police management team.
Inspector Mohammed Aminu’s promotion not only serves as a testament to his dedication and professionalism but also sets an inspiring example for other officers to emulate. The PSC’s decision to recognize and reward exemplary conduct sends a strong message of support to the men and women who diligently serve and protect the nation.
