A joint task force consisting of Enugu State Police Command’s Special Forces and Operatives from the Igbo-Eze North Police Division conducted a successful operation on the morning of August 10, 2023.
Their target was an alleged camp linked to the secessionist groups IPOB/ESN, located at Imufu within Igbo-Eze North Local Government Area. The operation led to a confrontation between law enforcement and the suspected criminals, resulting in the neutralization of three offenders. Several others managed to escape, sustaining serious gunshot wounds in the process.
The raid yielded significant discoveries, including four Pump Action guns, one locally made revolver, and a pistol. Additionally, law enforcement recovered 67 live cartridges, military-style camouflage uniforms, fabrics adorned with IPOB symbols, items believed to be talismans, and other potentially incriminating evidence.

Preliminary findings from the investigation point to the involvement of these criminal elements in the fatal shooting of two security personnel from the Neighbourhood Watch Group on July 21, 2023. The incident occurred at Umuagama in Enugu-Ezike community, within the Igbo-Eze North Local Government Area. These suspects also reportedly attempted to enforce an unlawful sit-at-home order in various parts of the same local government area.
Commending the successful execution of the operation, Enugu State Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Ammani, fdc, expressed his appreciation to the diligent Operatives. He encouraged them and their counterparts to maintain their determination and steadfastness in combating crime.
CP Ammani appealed to the citizens of Enugu State for their continuous support and collaboration. He specifically urged residents of Igbo-Eze North Local Government Area, along with owners of medical facilities, to promptly report any individuals spotted with gunshot wounds.
