In a significant breakthrough against cybercrime, the National Cybercrime Center of the Nigerian Police Force (NPF-NCCC) has made substantial headway in dismantling a cyberstalking and blackmailing syndicate that operated behind the façade of the Gistlover blog. A statement issued by ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force’s Public Relations Officer, confirmed the arrests of three suspects linked to the notorious online platform. The arrests follow a petition by Hon. and Dr. Mrs. Seye Oladejo, detailing the blog’s malicious activities.
The arrested suspects, Adebukola Kolapo, Nnedum Micheal Somtomchukwu, and Isaac Akpokighe, are pivotal members of the Gistlover family syndicate. Adebukola Kolapo, known as Omo oba Gistlover, played a central role in creating and managing over 80% of the blog’s pages. His responsibilities included crafting defamatory content against individuals like Hon. and Dr. Mrs. Oluseyi Oladejo. For his involvement, Adebukola received rewards, including cars and monetary incentives. Additionally, he facilitated the laundering of illegal funds associated with the platform.Nnedum Somtochukwu’s involvement extended to shielding the blog from sanctions by redirecting traffic to new pages whenever the blog faced penalties. His collaboration with the syndicate head earned him promotions and rewards for circulating defamatory content.Isaac Akpokighe’s contribution mirrored the Gistlover blog’s activities. He replicated multiple pages, disseminating defamatory content similar to the blog’s tactics. Digital forensics traced four gistlover pages to Isaac Apkokogho.
