The Department of Criminology at Stockholm University is offering doctoral studentships in Criminology. As a PhD student in this department, you will have the opportunity to work within the department’s research environment and contribute actively to its research endeavors.
Qualification Requirements:

- Completed a second-cycle degree or equivalent, with at least 240 higher education credits (ECTS).
- For doctoral studies in Criminology, you should hold a Bachelor’s degree (preferably in Criminology or other social sciences) and have at least 60 ECTS credits at advanced level, which should include a thesis.
- Admission to a third-cycle program is a prerequisite for the appointment of a doctoral studentship.
Selection Criteria:
Candidates will be selected based on their potential to benefit from the PhD training. The selection process considers factors such as:
- Independence in analysis and design demonstrated in previous work.
- Methodological and scientific maturity.
- Problem formulation and stringency exhibited in earlier work and the research proposal.
- Department’s capacity to provide suitable supervision.
- Decisions on admissions will be made by the Department Board and communicated via email.
Terms of Employment:
- Initial contract duration: up to one year.
- Employment may be extended for a maximum of two years at a time.
- Total employment period may not exceed four years of full-time study.
- Doctoral students are expected to focus primarily on their education, but can engage in teaching, research, and administration (up to 20% of full-time position).
