The IT University of Copenhagen is seeking highly motivated individuals to apply for a PhD position starting on December 15, 2023, or shortly thereafter. This position is funded by a grant from the Novo Nordic Foundation and will be led by Associate Professor Jichen Zhu.

This interdisciplinary project aims to contribute to the emerging field of human-AI interaction, specifically at the intersection of Human-Computer Interaction and Machine Learning, within the domain of health and well-being. The project’s goal is to explore new ways for regular users to interact with AI applications enhanced by explanations created by explainable AI (XAI).
While AI and machine learning advancements have transformative potential for personalized health and well-being, non-technical users often struggle to effectively utilize this technology. The project aims to address this by integrating user considerations and interaction design into human-centered XAI.
Location: Copenhagen, Denmark

Qualifications:
- A Master’s degree in areas related to Human-Computer Interaction, Interaction Design, AI/Machine Learning.
- Background in either design (interaction/UX design/HCI) or AI/ML. Interdisciplinary experience in both is an advantage.
- Proficient programming skills to prototype ML applications.
Research Environment:
The candidate will work closely with Associate Professor Jichen Zhu and join the Procedural eXpression Lab (PXL).
