About Us:
Trinity College Dublin’s School of Engineering is collaborating with prominent renewable energy technology developers, industrial energy users, energy communities, and academic experts in agriculture and renewable energy. This collaborative effort is part of the HY4RES project, which aims to achieve net-zero energy consumption in Atlantic Area energy consumers and communities. As a PhD student in this project, you will play a pivotal role in conducting comprehensive life cycle sustainability assessments and developing eco-design solutions for hybrid renewable energy plants.
Position Overview:
In this role, you will contribute to cutting-edge research and development in the following areas:

- Conduct background research in hybrid renewable energy technology, life cycle assessment, and life cycle sustainability assessment.
- Perform life cycle assessment and sustainability assessment of hybrid renewable energy pilot plants across diverse sectors, including agriculture, aquaculture, and ports.
- Develop an innovative eco-design framework that integrates life cycle engineering principles into the design process of renewable energy plants to enhance sustainability.
- Collaborate on project administration, pilot plant installation, stakeholder engagement, and various tasks supporting the HY4RES project’s successful execution.
- Engage in communication and dissemination activities to raise awareness about the life cycle impacts of hybrid renewable energy systems among stakeholders and the scientific community.
Qualifications and Requirements:
We are seeking candidates who possess:
- A primary degree in engineering, environmental science, energy science, or a related discipline.
- Strong research capabilities and a keen interest in sustainable energy solutions.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work within a multidisciplinary research group.
- A proactive approach to project management, administration, and collaboration.
