This exciting opportunity is part of a cutting-edge research project led by Associate Professor Thor Grünbaum, funded by the Independent Research Fund Denmark (DFF).

About the Research Project:

The larger project centers around the intriguing hypothesis that vague and ambiguous theorizing in cognitive neuroscience is a significant factor contributing to the low replicability of experimental studies. As more than half of psychology studies do not replicate, the project seeks to investigate the root cause of this crisis, with a focus on the impact of poor theories. Using the analytical tools of philosophy of science, we aim to assess the role of proper theorizing and identify the type of theory needed to alleviate the crisis.

Your Role:

As the successful candidate, you will have the opportunity to develop your research plan within the framework of the Theory Crisis in Cognitive Neuroscience project. Your main focus will be on addressing the replication and theory crises from the perspective of a Bayesian philosophy of science. Engaging with recent philosophy of science and philosophy of confirmation, along with relevant studies in psychology, will be an essential part of your work. You will work closely with philosophers, cognitive psychologists, and neuroscientists associated with the CoInAct Research Group, contributing to a vibrant academic environment.

Requirements:

• Two-year master’s degree (120 ECTS) or equivalent in philosophy or a related field.
• Proficiency in written and spoken academic English.
• A keen interest in philosophy, cognitive science, and Bayesian philosophy of science.
• Strong research and analytical skills.
