The Department of Physics, Chemistry, and Pharmacy at the University of Southern Denmark (SDU) invites applications for a three-year PhD position in Bacterial Coating and Catalysis, under the supervision of Dr. Changzhu Wu. This position is part of a Carlsberg Foundation-funded project within the Semper Ardens – Accelerate framework. The project is dedicated to developing supramolecular polymer coatings for bacteria, safeguarding them under harsh conditions while enabling innovative catalysis methods.
Working in the dynamic and international Wu group, you will be at the forefront of enzyme catalysis and protein chemistry research. Leveraging interdisciplinary expertise in chemistry, polymer science, chemical engineering, and microbiology, the group aims to enhance the efficacy of enzymes and proteins for industrial applications in both white and red biotechnology.

- A master’s degree in organic chemistry, polymer chemistry, supramolecular chemistry, or a related field, with a solid background in organic and supramolecular synthesis.

The Department of Physics, Chemistry and Pharmacy is one of four departments at the Faculty of Science, SDU, located in Odense. The department focuses on basic research, breaking traditional disciplinary boundaries to develop new technologies and sciences across physics, chemistry, pharmacy, mathematics, computer science, and biology. Research conducted by the department contributes to new knowledge and solutions with applications in climate, environment, energy, and health.

- Appointment as a PhD Research Fellow is for three years with no other paid employment during this period.
- The successful applicant will be employed under the agreement on salaried PhD scholars between the Ministry of Finance and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations). For more information on salary and taxation, refer to relevant links.
