The Research Center Borstel (RCB) is a distinguished Lung Center operating internationally as part of the Leibniz Association, funded by the Federal Government and the State of Schleswig-Holstein. Our primary mission is to conduct basic and translational research in the realm of respiratory diseases. The interplay between the host microbiome and metabolic activity is pivotal for respiratory health. Consequently, microbial communities and their metabolic activity within the host have emerged as a novel “target organ” for therapeutic interventions. Clinical strategies utilizing chemically and functionally characterized microbial metabolic products offer an appealing avenue for exploration.
Job Description
- Planning, executing, and evaluating experiments with the aim of isolating (HPLC, LC/MS) and structurally characterizing (GC, MS, NMR) bacterial metabolites sourced from potential candidate bacteria.
- Planning, executing, and evaluating in vitro cell culture experiments to functionally analyze candidate metabolites.
- Data assessment, presentation, collation, preparation of publications, and support for ongoing projects.
- Completion of data for a doctoral thesis, and presenting results at national and international conferences.
Your Qualifications
- Master’s degree (MSc.) in natural sciences (chemistry, biochemistry, biology, or equivalent).
- Experience in mass spectrometry and chromatography is advantageous.
- Willingness to engage in in vitro experiments involving cell cultures and primary mouse cells.
- Demonstrated motivation, adaptability, strong interdisciplinary collaboration, and a team-oriented mindset.
- Excellent command of written and spoken English.
