Peter Obi Hints at Possible Departure from Labour Party Ahead of 2027 Elections

In a significant revelation, Mr. Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 general elections, has hinted at the possibility of leaving the party ahead of the 2027 election season. Obi made this statement during an engagement with his supporters on his Verified X space, hosted by Parallel Facts, where he emphasized his unwavering commitment to making Nigeria work for all citizens.

The former Governor of Anambra State clarified that his primary focus, supported by committed members of the Obidient Movement, revolves around the betterment of Nigeria as a whole. He emphasized that the contrived crisis within the Labour Party was merely a distraction tactic, one that neither he nor his supporters were willing to succumb to.

Obi stressed, “Our engagement is about Nigeria, they are trying to change our focus. What we want to do is not about Labour Party; it is about what the Obidients want to do about Nigeria.”

Drawing parallels from biblical teachings, Obi likened his situation to the principle of engaging with a community with the intention of effecting positive change. He quoted Jesus’ words, “When you go into a city, try to change them, live with them, fast with them. in the end, you can’t, come out and even wash the sand that is on your shoes.” This, according to Obi, underscores his commitment to striving for change within the Labour Party, but not at the expense of his larger mission for the country.

“I’m making spirited efforts to change them (LP), but I’m not going to die with them,” Obi declared. He reiterated that if efforts to reform the Labour Party prove futile, he and his supporters will not hesitate to seek alternative paths to achieving their goals. Obi’s statement hints at a potential departure from the Labour Party if internal challenges persist, signaling a strategic move to prioritize his broader vision for Nigeria’s development.

As Obi continues to navigate the political landscape, his remarks underscore the complexities and strategic considerations inherent in political alliances and affiliations, especially in the pursuit of national transformation and progress.
