The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has mounted pressure on President Bola Tinubu’s administration, demanding transparency regarding funds amassed from the removal of petrol subsidies over the past seven months.
This call comes as the party strongly criticized the federal government’s failure to disburse December salaries, despite substantial savings from the subsidy removal.
In a statement released by the PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Debo Ologunagba, the party urged President Tinubu to provide a detailed breakdown of significant financial allocations.

This includes distributable statutory revenue, Value Added Tax (VAT) revenue, Electronic Money Transfer Levy Revenue, and Exchange Difference Revenue, as outlined in the Federation Account Allocation Committee’s (FAAC) December 2023 communique.
Expressing deep concern, the PDP demanded immediate salary payments to workers and an additional compensatory payout of 50% to alleviate economic hardships. The party underscored the importance of governance guided by constitutional principles, emphasizing that Nigeria should be governed by rule of law, not individual or group interests.
The party strongly criticized the delay in salary disbursement, labeling it a clear indication of the APC-led administration’s insensitivity towards Nigerian citizens’ welfare, particularly during the festive period. Accusing the administration of exacerbating poverty while indulging in what they described as “lavish spending,” the PDP pointedly questioned the president’s priorities amid growing economic hardships.

Highlighting a stark contrast, the PDP pointed out their record of consistently paying salaries during their 16-year tenure, drawing attention to the current administration’s perceived disregard for workers’ financial well-being. They criticized the government’s decisions leading to increased petrol prices, resulting in elevated living costs for citizens.
In light of the recent FAAC announcement of substantial fund allocations, the PDP raised serious questions regarding the unpaid salaries despite the government’s significant financial resources. The party expressed dismay over what they termed as the APC administration’s penchant for corruption and suppression of Nigerian citizens.
This latest call by the PDP echoes prior warnings about the economic downturn under the APC-led government. The party emphasized the negative impact of the current economic policies on productivity, reinforcing their concerns about the nation’s economic direction.
