The autopsy results for the late singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, known as Mohbad, have failed to determine the cause of his death.
Senior Advocate of Nigeria Wahab Shittu revealed this information during a press briefing at the coroner’s inquest held in Lagos State on Wednesday.
Shittu explained that the pathologist in charge informed the coroner that the body was too decomposed at the time of the autopsy to ascertain the cause of death.

“The pathologist stated that the decomposition of the body prevented a conclusive determination of the cause of death,” Shittu said. “He implied that the uncertainty around the cause makes it suspicious. There is no clear reason for the death.”
The pathologist also suggested that Mohbad might have died due to a reaction to drugs administered before his death but could not confirm if the drugs were the cause.
Shittu urged the public to withhold judgment until the full autopsy report is reviewed, noting that the pathologist was an expert in his field. He mentioned that an application to access the full report was advised by the coroner.
A date has been set to cross-examine the pathologist regarding the autopsy findings.
“Don’t react until you have seen the full report,” Shittu advised. “The court has suggested applying for the complete report. It’s crucial to understand both the final verdict and the reasoning behind it. The pathologist’s evidence will be scrutinized through cross-examination.”
Mohbad, a former artist under Marlian Music owned by Naira Marley, passed away on September 12 at age 27, sparking controversy on social media. The Lagos State Police Command formed a 13-member special investigation team on September 18, 2023, to probe his death. This led to the arrests of Naira Marley and socialite Balogun Eletu, known as Sam Larry, among others.
Mohbad’s body was exhumed on September 21, 2023, for an autopsy. The state Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, tweeted in September 2023 that the autopsy had been completed and results were pending. In April, it was reported that the toxicology test had been concluded and sent to the pathologist for analysis and interpretation.
