Osun APC Factional Chairman Declines Governor’s Appointment

In a surprising turn of events, Mr. Rasaq Salinsile, the factional chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, has declined an appointment offered to him by Governor Ademola Adeleke.

Salinsile, who had previously led the faction of Osun APC loyal to ex-governor Rauf Aregbesola, cited personal reasons for his decision.

During the peak of the inter-party crisis that engulfed the state, Salinsile had fiercely opposed ex-governor Adegboyega Oyetola’s bid for a second term in office during the governorship poll held on July 16, 2022.

Last week Thursday, Governor Adeleke announced Salinsile’s appointment as the chairman of the Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM). However, although he did not openly reject the offer immediately after the announcement, Salinsile subsequently contacted the governor and expressed his decision to decline the appointment.

His absence at the swearing-in of other board chairmen on Wednesday further indicated his decision to step down from the position. In a subsequent list released by the government, Tope Mustapha Adeyemi was named as the new TESCOM Chairman, replacing Salinsile.

When questioned about his decision, Salinsile confirmed that he declined the appointment due to personal reasons but did not provide further details.

The sudden withdrawal from the appointment has added to the complexities surrounding the state’s political landscape, with factions within the APC continuing to exert their influence and vie for power.
